My Freshman Dorm Room!

Here it is: the habitat of yours truly, this where I’ve lived the past most eventful 9 months of my life. There are so so so many memories in this one little 15×13 ft space, and I still adore my little home I made while away at college. I lived in a double with one roommate in one of my university’s main dorms, and this is just my side of the room. The room came stocked with a bed (I first lofted it when I moved in: BIG MISTAKE. Do NOT loft your bed, there are so many options for storage solutions that make a dorm way more comfortable un-lofted), a desk, shelf, dresser and hutch (which is supporting my bed and not pictured).

Before arriving I had zero clue of what the room looked like, including the size of the closet. This was very intimidating, but luckily most dorms have standard sizes for furniture no matter where you go, so try not to let that stress you out.

Most of my decor is from Target, including my comforter. It is a lot easier to make a dorm feel home-y than most people think. The things that I think made the biggest difference were personalized canvases (I made some myself with canvases and paint from Michael’s), which you can replace with pictures if you’re not feeling artsy, and the white twinkle lights. They do a lot to warm-up the vibes and atmosphere of the room and doubled as a nightlight when my roommate went to sleep and I was still studying.

My Roomie and I had a collective project throughout the year that worked great as decor, while also being a way to keep memories. We called it “The Wall of Thots” which is an endearing and glorified way to describe some of the memories we included on some of the post-it notes. I’ll leave the rest to the imagination. Basically, all you need are some pictures, post-its and tape.  We put everything up in rows so it looked more organized, but you could totally make it mis-matched.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I can offer is to not buy clutter for your dorm. I am 100% guilty of this. I for one am the queen of getting carried away at Target. Accepting my problem is the first step to fixing it. Anyways, let yourself buy a couple things like lights and cute pillows but DO NOT get more than that. Yes the cute picture frames would look fab on your desk, but is it really worth taking up valuable space? No. This is why picture walls exist. Set up the essentials and then go back to target with an idea of what you still have room for.

P.S. More specific Dorm posts to come- this is just an overview post 🙂

Birthday Suit- What I Wore on my Birthday

Since I’ve been living in lulu shorts and sorority tanks recently, I decided to dress-up for the occasion. During the day I spent most of my time on the lake in a swim suit, but at night I transitioned into a preppier outfit for a family dinner:

  • Swimsuit: H&M
  • Shirt: Urban Outfitters
  • Jeans: Forever 21
  • Shoes: Target
  • Arrow Necklace: Etsy
  • Belt: LOFT
  • Sunnies: Forever 21
